Visitors to the 20th edition of Museum Night had a variety of engaging experiences to choose from. They could create a mini-ecosystem in a jar, follow animal tracks throughout the museum, learn about the scarcely recognized prehistoric bird known as the deaf grouse, or participate in a guided tour of the Hunting Museum, which highlighted 100 years of activity by the Croatian Hunting Association. There was something for everyone!
This year's Museum Night theme was "Museums - Visible and Invisible." The primary objective was to illuminate the activities behind the scenes of the museum—elements that are not apparent to visitors but crucial to the museum's overall presentation and functionality.
The Hunting Museum addressed the theme of visible-invisible through a comprehensive and significant program that effectively showcased hunting culture, tradition, and ethics. This initiative emphasised the critical role hunters play in sustaining ecosystem stability, thereby underscoring their invaluable contributions to environmental preservation.
In the commemorative year for the Croatian Hunting Association, the program commenced with a guided tour of the Hunting Museum. This tour gave visitors insights into the often "invisible" undertakings of hunters, focusing on their various efforts to maintain game populations and habitat stability. The second presentation highlighted the prehistoric bird, the deaf grouse, now critically endangered in the wild. To mitigate its potential extinction, the Croatian Hunting Association and the Hunting Association of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County are dedicated to breeding and conserving the deaf grouse. The audience engaged with this presentation on the rare and significant species with considerable interest.
The Hunting Museum is recognized as the foremost institution in this region of Europe for the exhibition of wildlife that inhabits our ecosystems. It is mainly distinguished by its innovative presentation style, which features open-type museum dioramas that enhance the viewer's experience and understanding of the collections.
Workshops were organized for children, young people, and all individuals interested in engaging in creative yet educational activities. These workshops focused on the production of eco balls for reforestation purposes, allowing participants to learn about the roles that jays and squirrels play in the restoration of forest ecosystems.
The esteemed mini biosphere workshops, conducted in jars, were featured during Museum Night. They effectively demonstrated the intricate biological systems that encompass our environment. Each participant had the opportunity to construct a personal biosphere in a jar, which they could subsequently take home. With appropriate care, this creation serves as a sustainable ecosystem and a lasting reminder of the Museum Night experience.
The Hunting Museum of the Croatian Hunting Association successfully met the expectations of its visitors this year, catering to individuals of all ages. The initiative behind this project was to enhance public understanding of the Croatian Hunting Association's operations and activities through the museum's visual identity. The primary objective was to educate and inform the general public regarding the diverse facets of the Association's work and elucidate the significant role hunting plays within society.
Museum Night is one of several events in which the Hunting Museum actively participates throughout the year. In addition to the standard museum exhibition in February and March, we will offer workshops on goose feather drawing designed explicitly for children. We encourage you to continue following our website and social media updates.
